I came across this guy on We Are Hunted, my new go-to for up-and-coming indie acts (hat tip: Lauren). At first listen, he reminded me of a mix between the lead singer of Edward Sharpe of the Magnetic Zeros and a tinge of Mumford & Sons.

So when I read that he was a runner-up on Australian Idol a few years ago, I did the whole “O RLY?” reaction, which actually means, “I can’t believe I’m listening to someone who almost won a musical reality show. Ghhhah.” After coming to my senses, I realized that never mattered anyway. Good music is good music — as long as there’s a solid message and the musician is true to his or her craft. I really do hope Matt Corby gets proper exposure in the states.
